Due to the data size of some collections, the optional hard drive ships on a 1 terabyte HGST Touro S 7200rpm USB 3.0 (with USB 2.0 compatibility) computer powered external hard drive; however we strongly recommend Solid State Drives (SSD) to run the most demanding collections which will save you a lot of loading time and significantly increase overall performance. You could then use the supplied drive for backup.
What happens if I lose my data or the hard drive crashes?
The optional hard drive includes a two-year limited warranty from the original manufacturer. The hard drive is subject to change without notice. The sound data will be replaced free of charge by download should the hard drive fail.
What are the system requirements for the optional external hard drive?
To obtain satisfactory performance from the supplied hard drive a USB 3.0 compatible computer is required. If your computer does not have a USB 3.0 connection, you can use the USB 2.0 connection supplied with the hard drive to copy the data to another (non energy saving) internal hard drive of at least 7200rpm; or external hard drive of at least 7200rpm that has a Firewire 800 (not 400) connection or faster, and use the supplied hard drive for backup. Note: USB 2.0 is too slow to stream ultra detailed virtual instruments, resulting in poor performance (pops/clicks/dropouts etc.). Computer powered external hard drives should be ejected prior to shutting down your computer to avoid damage to your data or the hard drive.
Can a USB 2.0 computer be upgraded to USB 3.0?
If your computer has an ExpressCard slot, you can purchase a USB 3.0 ExpressCard. If you have a tower system you can purchase a USB 3.0 PCIe Card.
This is my first EastWest purchase, do I need an iLok security key?
No! For the first time, we are offering iLok machine (electronic) licenses that are placed on your computer that do not require the separate purchase of an iLok2 security key. However, if you already have an iLok2 security key you can choose to use that instead for portability, and everything will still work as before. You will select between a iLok machine (electronic) license or iLok2 security key in the Installation Center during the activation of any product.
